Every furry baby deserves a treat once in a while, and what better than wholesome ones you make yourself? This dog treat recipe features peanut butter and banana and is very easy to make!
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup natural peanut butter
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup oatmeal
1 large egg
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a large bowl, stir together egg, peanut butter, honey and olive oil.
Stir in flour and oatmeal; mix well.
Transfer dough to a parchment-lined board. Kneed several times until dough is smooth. Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness with rolling pin. Cut out desired shapes with cookie cutter and placed on prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until hard.
Let cool completely. Store in an airtight container up to one week. May be refrigerated or frozen for longer shelf life.
Yield: Varies depending on the size of your cookie cutter. For a 4-inch bone shape*, recipe makes approximately 1 dozen treats.
Resist the urge to make very thick cookies, as these will take a long time to harden.
Recipe may be doubled.
