Dog Bark Treats Recipe!

Posted on February 19, 2012 at 7:15 PM

Why are we smiling?

Because Mom's friend, Sue, sent her a Betty Crocker recipe for new dog treats!   Mom said she would make them because we are very good boys, and to make up for this humiliation:

Are you ready?   Introducing:

DOG BARK TREATS RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

 5 slices bacon

2 slices Cheddar cheese (3/4 oz each)

2 cups carob chips   (Note: Do NOT use chocolate chips!)

1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter

1. Line a cookie sheet with foil. Spray lightly with cooking spray.

2.  Cook bacon  in a skillet over low heat, turning occasionally, until crisp.  Drain on paper towels.  Coarsely chop bacon; set aside.

3.  Using 1 1/4-inch small dog bone cookie cutter, cut 15 dog bone shapes out of cheese slices.   Set aside.

4.  In medium bowl, microwave carob chips uncovered on high 30 seconds; stir.  Microwave 30 seconds longer.  Be careful not to burn the chips! Stir in peanut butter.

5.  Spread carob mixture on foil to 1/4-inch thickness, about a 9-inch square.  Immediately sprinkle with bacon and cheese; press lightly into carob mixture.  Chill   until set, about 15 minutes in freezer, or 30 minutes in refrigerator.

6.   Remove from foil; break  into 18 pieces.  Store in airtight container   in refrigerator for 5 days.

7.  FEED OFTEN TO YOUR DOGS!  (We added that last one. )

These treats are so tasty and make us VERY happy!

We bet if you're as well behaved as we are, your people will make DOG BARK for you too!

Those look good enough for people to eat! LOL

Boys, your Mom is very, very good to you, but I know it's because you give her lots of sloppy, wet kisses. See? It pays off! :)

These look yummy but fattening???? As a Sheltie with high cholesterol (even though I am NOT overweight), I don't know if I could eat these. I think my mom will make them and put them in the lounge at school. How many bets that they will be gone by first recess?!?! LOL

Kidding. ;)

Ha ha, it's true that people at work will eat anything that's put out! :)
I don't think I'd give these to a dog with high cholesterol :)

It depends on the supermarket. Some have carob in the baking aisle, some have it in the "natural foods" aisle, some don't have it at all. If you're in Michigan you can get it at Meijers. :)

Love the look of these, BUT sadly Honey is on diet, not for too much longer though, just a couple of more kilo's to go! Augi & Ti you had better understand that your Mom is VERY special, not just to you but to us all over the world as well. Lots of love 'us three'

Thanks. I will check the natural food aisle for it. I've heard of carob before, but just haven't seen it.

That does look super yummy! I wonder if using Turkey Bacon would help with the cholesterol issue? I'm sure that Bailey and Moose wouldn't mind doing a taste test of it for me. :)

Thanks for letting us share in the fun of the boys' treats! And congrats to Dee's Golden!

OK, I want those for myself! lol Did you (mom) taste them? Maybe carob and bacon isn't the best combination, hmmm.... Anyway, you boys are super-cute, as always!
